Kahului Baptist Church

Our History

On April 22, 1945, the First Baptist Church of Kahului was organized. On July 15, 1945, the name was changed to Kahului Baptist Church. After meeting in various locations throughout Maui, including the Young Men’s Buddhist Hall, a missionary’s residence in Wailuku, three buildings in Naska (near Kanaha), the present building located on Puunene Avenue was dedicated on December 15, 1951.

Since its inception, Kahului Baptist Church has had the privilege of beginning (i.e., planting) five missions, all of which have been constituted into independent churches. These five churches are Wailuku Baptist Church (1952), Pukalani Baptist Church (1960), Kihei Baptist Chapel (1977), Maui-Philippine Baptist Church (1989), and Maui First Korean Baptist Church (1990). For many years, the church has also sponsored a preschool to provide a Christian witness to families in the community. The preschool continues to educate many students today.

Kahului Baptist Church is a member of the Southern Baptist Convention and as such regularly contributes to the SBC’s Cooperative Program.
