“Organic” as it pertains to our food seems to be the label of choice these days. As an adjective it simply means “of, relating to, or derived from living matter.” As such, it is a great description of the Church. Naturally, apart from Christ, we were dead in our trespasses and sins. We were non-organic, “of, relating to, or derived from non-living matter.” The Scriptures describe our hearts as “hearts of stone” (Ezekiel 36:26). Thankfully, He took away our hearts of stone and gave us hearts of flesh. He, who is THE resurrection and THE life, has brought us back to life. So in a sense the Church of Christ truly is organic, a living organism, “derived from living matter.” We are derived from the very source of all life, Jesus Christ.
Our life as a church is to continue to grow in this organic union with Christ, as He commanded: “I am the vine; you are the branches. Whoever abides in me and I in him, he it is that bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing” (John 15:5). As you explore the various ministries we have to encourage our abiding in Christ, I hope you consider joining with us.
